Five puzzles reset every day at 00:00 UTC, and every player in the world gets the same subject, so your score is directly comparable to your friends’. No account, no download, no guess limit.

Character asks you to identify someone from a roster of 527 drawn from 42 games, comparing gender, race, job, weapon, role, source game and debut year with every guess. Summon does the same for 91 espers, aeons, Guardian Forces and Eikons. Silhouette hands you a blurred portrait that sharpens with each miss, Quote gives you a famous line with the names redacted, and Emoji hands you a rebus of exactly five emoji and asks who it describes.

Every mode draws its own answer at 00:00 UTC, and every player in the world gets the same subject on the same day, so your result is directly comparable with your friends'. No account, no download, and no limit on the number of guesses: the point is deduction, not speed.

• Character compares seven attributes on a grid: gender, race, job, weapon, role, source game and debut year. Orange means partially right.
• Silhouette shows a blacked-out portrait that sharpens with every wrong guess. Solve it early and you have recognised someone from almost nothing.
• Quote gives you a real line of dialogue with the speaker's name redacted, plus five clues that unlock one per miss.
• Emoji hides a character behind a five-emoji rebus, each glyph standing for one trait: a weapon, a class, a story beat, a place.
• Summon swaps the roster for the 91 summons of the series, compared on element, debut and how many games they appear in.

527 characters, 42 games

The roster spans the whole series, from the 1987 original through to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in 2024. It reaches well past the sixteen numbered entries: Ivalice (Tactics, Tactics Advance, Vagrant Story), the full Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, both MMOs, and spin-offs such as The 4 Heroes of Light and Stranger of Paradise.

Characters are filed under the game they appeared in first, which is worth remembering when a tile turns red on a guess you were sure about: nobody from the 1997 Final Fantasy VII is filed under Remake, and Cissnei belongs to Before Crisis rather than Crisis Core.

Where the data comes from

Every attribute on the board is checked against the games and the Final Fantasy wiki, and measured against a written rules document before it goes live. First appearance is decided by original Japanese release date; a job is the class the game actually names; a signature weapon is the one the character carries in official art, not everything they can equip.

Quotes must be lines a character genuinely speaks. Character bios, narration, and lines delivered by someone else are excluded on purpose, which is why some famous characters never come up in the Quote puzzle: no line of theirs could be sourced with confidence. Where the source material genuinely does not settle an attribute, it is left neutral rather than guessed.

Does everyone get the same answer? Yes, worldwide, changing at 00:00 UTC. Each mode draws separately, so the five puzzles are five different subjects on any given day.

How many guesses do I get? Unlimited. Nothing is lost by testing a hypothesis you are unsure about, though in Quote and Emoji each miss spends one clue.
