Final Fantasy X
2001 · PlayStation 2 · Spira, Sin, and the first voiced cast
Final Fantasy X was the first in the series with voice acting, the first to drop the world map, and the first built around a pilgrimage: Yuna walks to her own death to buy Spira a few years of peace, and the party walks with her knowing it.
Spira is the most religiously specific setting the series has produced. Yevon is a functioning church with doctrine, clergy and heresy, and the plot is ultimately about discovering that its doctrine is a lie maintained deliberately. The Al Bhed, who reject it, are treated as heretics for using machines.
The races here are named and mechanically visible in the puzzles: Al Bhed, Ronso and Guado all appear on the race tile, alongside the Hypello and the human majority.

Small core party, distinctive races, and a clean split with Final Fantasy X-2: characters introduced in the 2003 sequel are filed there, not here.
